FAQ

Yes. Yes you do. Not ALL assignments will need to be uploaded on turnitin.com, but long term assignments (such as poetry and your essays) absolutely have to be.

Turnitin.com info will be posted in class and given to each class within the first couple of weeks of school. EACH CLASS HAS A SPECIFIC ID AND PASSWORD.

IF AN ASSIGNMENT IS NOT UPLOADED TO TURNITIN.COM I WILL NOT GRADE IT. I REPEAT: IF YOU HAVE NO UPLOADED AN ASSIGNMENT TO TURNITIN.COM I WILL NOT GRADE IT.

Turnitin.com not working for you? EMAIL ME YOUR ESSAY!

Have a hard copy to turn in on time but your essay isn't uplaoded? I'm NOT grading it until it is uploaded on turnitin.com AND it's late (late policy still applies for both)

I have been doing this for a long time and am very familiar with all of the "issues" that arise with turning in essays. You are given MORE than enough notice as to when essays are due, AND you will more than likely have time in class to work on your essays.

Do we HAVE to use turnitin.com?

In class you will be analyzing British and European Literature (12th grade) OR World Literature (9th grade). You will be reading both inside and outside the classroom. You will be working on your grammar and vocabulary skills, and you will also be formatting and writing essays.

To help with the learning process, short videos will be watched (I create most, if not all, of them) and will be available to you 24/7. If you can watch a video on YouTube, you can be successful in this class. This new way of learning is not only fun, but also allows YOU to be in control of how you retain the information and move forward in your studies.

If at any time you feel lost or need help, PLEASE come see me OR email me. I am here to help you; it's my job and I love helping ya'll with school related stuff.

So what exactly will we be doing in class?

I attended Rowan University and received my bachelors degree in English Literature. I was a classroom aide for four years before I was hired in 2012 to teach full time.

What are your credentials?
What happens if I miss your class?

Life happens. You'll get sick, or an emergency will arise at home; I get it. If you are absent from school and miss my class, or you were sent home from the nurse's office, you MUST check the "WHILE YOU WERE OUT" folder at the front of the room when you come back.

HOWEVER, please note that I check the attendance rosters daily. If you aren't absent from school for the full day but miss my class (unless you were sent home sick by the nurse), I will talk to you the next time I see you to let you know what you missed, give you the work you missed during that class period, AND give you an extra assignment to make up for the time you missed in class. The extra assignment will count as your class participation. Refuse to do it? That's fine. But phone calls will be made so someone at home knows that you  missed my class, and therefore may have problems later on in the year...

Not without a pass. If you're late to class more than twice (within any time frame) and DON'T want to serve a detention you must write me a one page story as to why you were late and turn it in before 2:26pm that day  (written neatly, proper grammar, if you are not typing it use a PEN, creativity counts). These will NOT be uploaded on turnitin.com...I will tell you where. THESE WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED LATE!

No story? You serve the detention, and make more of an effort to be on time.

Have an issue? Come see me

Can I come late to class?

As stated on the main page, you can bring your phone to class because there will be times you will need it for an assignment.

HOWEVER...your phone will either be put away in your bag or pocket, OR be placed on the corner of your desk when you are not using it for an assignment.

If you are writing your essay in class, or doing independent work you are more than welcome to listen to music...BUT one earbud is in your ear, and one is out, and the tunes are only to be heard by YOU.

If you decide to be a sneaky-sneak and try to text during class, or put your hair over your ears to hide your earbuds, I will see you. I will see you and I will tell you to stop and rethink your choice and put it away. IF you keep on trying to be a sneaky-sneak, I will STILL see you and I will write you up, I will take away all of your class participation points for the week, and then start making phone calls home and/or sending emails. Oh, and if I don't catch you right away, my in-class support has full permission to do the same.

Ya'll, class time is class time; it's OUR time. You can manage to not text someone back within a millisecond, send a Snap, post to your Instagram or Finsta or whatever it is you NEED to do at that very moment. Don't be that person that makes it h-e-double-hockey-sticks for the rest of the class if phones are all of a sudden no longer allowed in class at all.
